–Windows Only–

Have you been running the same version of Firefox since the 1.0 release (like me) and never bothered to change anything. Well, I’ve been noticing that since upgrading to 2.0 my web browsing is getting so slow. There might be a way to fix this using RegCleaner… version after version overlapping seems to be causing Firefox to slow down.

First; backup your bookmarks.html file my exporting it from the Organize Bookmarks… window. Then backup your firefox profile, if you need help click here.

Second; Download RegCleaner from the link above, I recommend this program for safely removing registry entries. (If you want you can remove the entries manually, although this isn’t recommended)

Third; Uninstall Firefox 2.0.0.1 from Add or Remove Programs

Forth; Go to Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla and delete the /Firefox directory.

Fifth; Open up RegCleaner and delete all MOZILLA FIREFOX related entries, if you use Thunderbird do not delete Thunderbird entries. For you do-it-yourselfers here are the entries to delete (not using RegCleaner)-

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Applications\firefox.exe]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MozillaPlugins]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins]

Sixth; Re-Install Firefox from getfirefox.com
